The RID Reader is a cost effective & compact instrument, designed to simplify & speed-up the process of reading precipitin radial immunodiffusion rings.

This portable instrument is aimed at all sizes of laboratories using RID plates, decreasing user error by efficiently quantifying the concentrations of known proteins with minimal user input.

The RID Reader has a built-in video camera that transmits large, clear images of the precipitin rings to the computer screen to improve measurement precision.

The intuitive software enables the user to select from several options for the calculation of results from an automatically generated calibration curve to increase confidence in results.

Data, calibration curves and images can be saved for future reference, providing a useful tool for training and quality control.




The technique is based on the complexing of antigen and antibody to produce a visible precipitin ring. The diameter of the precipitin ring is directly proportional to the amount of protein present in the sample and can be measured using an eye piece or, for more precise measurement, with Binding Sites Digital RID Plate Reader.

The majority of our RID assays are based on conventional antibody-antigen technology. Where increased sensitivity is required, we have developed NANORID? technology. These kits use latex enhanced antibodies to give accurate quantitation, even at low concentrations of protein.

Complete diffusion (Mancini)
Incomplete diffusion (Fahey and McKelvey)
Cost efficient: RID plates can be sectioned to allow each plate to be used more than once

Radial immunodiffusion methods vary and results can be calculated in several different ways. The flexibility of the RIDRead package allows the user to select their preferred option for result calculation from a calibration curve:

A linear curve is used if accuracy is of primary importance
Choose a binomial curve if results are required quickly (uses a Fahey method)
A point-to-point curve is used for functional complement assays
